Stress is one of the most difficult things we face in our lives. The truth is that certain stress is necessary for us to grow and evolve. However, it is critical that we all have a spot where we can decompress and breathe away from the stress. I had a patient the other day who was suffering from high blood pressure and exhaustion. He wanted to discuss hormones and nutrition. The issue was that they were not going to assist. The problem was that he had nowhere to go to unwind, relax, and get away from the tension.

He was under engineering and customer stress at work. When he got home, things got even worse because his wife was the source of the majority of his stress. His health had been deteriorating for years, and he had no idea what to do about it. He began crying when I asked him what it would be like if he went home and there was no one there and he could just rest and breathe. He stated that he had often considered it and that the thought itself felt nice. It was far past time for this man to get a divorce. We commonly talk about men abusing women, but it also happens the other way around.

No man or woman should have to live in a home that is physically or psychologically killing them. If your relationships are causing you pain, walking away is not only appropriate, but it is frequently the best option. When someone is allergic to mold in their home, they must leave so that the mold does not continue to kill them. This is no exception. Get therapy and guidance, but keep in mind that leaving is always a possibility. Never stay in a potentially hazardous or harmful setting.
