We all tend to be cautious about who we let near our children since we are all acutely aware that the incorrect influence can have disastrous consequences for our children’s choices and lives. However, how cautious are you about who you let to be around you? I’ll tell you a personal experience to demonstrate what I mean. After my wife and I picked a school for our children, we began attending the mandatory parents of children meetups. So all the parents would get together to figure out who these folks were that we would all have to deal with for the next decade or so.
It was there that I met Ryan Stewman. We both had the “I really don’t want to be here” look all over us, but we went because our spouses told us to and we aren’t stupid enough to say no to them. I consider myself fortunate to have attended that meeting since I met not only Ryan but also a group of wonderful people who helped push me in a new direction. Ryan, on the other hand, arrived in a group. I’ve met world champions of all kinds thanks to Ryan. I’ve met folks who function on a different level, whether in sports, business, law, or personal development.
Nobody forced me to write a book; it was just what everyone else was doing. Nobody pushed me to move out of my comfort zone and start posting what I do on the internet; it was just what everyone else was doing. Nobody sat me down and told me I needed to spend more quality time with my kids; it was just the conversations everyone was having. At the end of the day, no one forced me to change, and no one even advised me to change.
Being around people who were doing huge things motivated me to accomplish large things as well. However, this also works in reverse. If you surround yourself with negative individuals who lead you astray, you will do smaller things, allow yourself to be negative, and your life will become darker. So, surround yourself with people who are doing the things you want to do, and you will end up doing those things.
I am now in a place I never knew I could be if it weren’t for the group of guys and women I presently hang out with. So identify individuals who are doing what you want to do and being the person you want to be and surround yourself with them; it will improve your life.
