A new viral trend on social media promotes the idea of using whole sticks of butter as a portable snack, especially for those following the Carnivore or Keto diets. While experts acknowledge that butter provides essential saturated fats for the body, they caution against consuming it by itself, as it may not be the best option for overall health. The trend raises concerns about the quality of health advice circulating online, especially when extreme diets gain attention without proper scientific backing.
As we approach the new year, many people are looking for ways to improve their health. Experts suggest a balanced approach, focusing on building a comprehensive healthcare team that addresses not only nutrition and exercise but also dental and mental health. They emphasize that diet plays a significant role in overall well-being and recommend being cautious about following extreme trends, encouraging individuals to seek well-rounded, evidence-based advice for lasting health improvements.
Narrator [00:00:01] Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please? Covering both sides of the big issues with the analysis you trust on Newsradio 1040 W.H.O.
FOX NEWS Radio Host [00:00:10] There is this trend going on in social media called the Carnivore Diet, and influencers have been promoting, touting around whole sticks of butter as the perfect portable snack. Healthy living expert Dr. Matt Chalmers is on the Davison Family Dentistry Newsmaker line to react. Dr. Chalmers, welcome to W.H.O. Radio. Good morning.
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:00:33] Morning. How are you guys?
FOX NEWS Radio Host [00:00:35] I’m doing fine. I do not have a stick of butter in my lunch pail this morning, Dr. Chalmers, but should I? What do you think?
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:00:43] Well, so no. Butter is if you’re especially being a carnivore or keto diet. Butter is fantastic fuel source. Everyone’s body needs the saturated fats that are in it for your brain, for your lungs, for your all your cell membranes, but eating it just by itself. Not not a great idea.
FOX NEWS Radio Host [00:01:00] Well, Dr. Chalmers, just overall, I’m worried about what I see in social media. It seems like the extreme stuff is what’s gets a lot of attention. What what’s your concern about recommendations like this?
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:14] The problem we get into is that, you know, it all boils down to who you’re going to listen to, you know? And so it’s kind of one of those things that, you know, look at look at who they are, what their education is, whether they’ve got degrees or not, and see kind of where it is. And something sounds really crazy, silly. Look it up before you decide you’re going to jump on that train.
FOX NEWS Radio Host [00:01:32] Exactly right. So, Dr. Chalmers, this is the time of year, of course, we’re about to go into the time of year with every everybody makes a resolution about living more healthy. What’s the sensible path to to take? What are you advising patients right now?
Dr. Matt Chalmers [00:01:47] Well, so I was able to build a team. Like right now I’m doing some 60 to 30 first minute podcast. There’s on hacks about how to choose your health care team. But you need somebody who’s going to help with your nutrition, with your exercise, with your dental health, with your psychological mental health. So if you’re trying to get yourself all the way holistically better, you kind of have to recognize that there’s each one of those little pieces. Chemical, the chemical piece, the diet part is the easiest and the most beneficial for all of those issues. So really dialing in your what you’re eating and what your cell phone is probably the fastest way to get the most amount of health.
FOX NEWS Radio Host [00:02:21] Healthy living expert Dr. Matt Chalmers. Dr. Chalmers, looking forward to that podcast. It’ll be available on the iHeartRadio app. Thanks for talking with us this morning.
