I realize this is going to be an inflammatory message, but it is what it is. If you have a family history of heart attack or stroke. If you are afraid about having a heart attack or stroke and you are tracking your cholesterol, you are missing out. Cholesterol has never been harmful to anyone and does not cause heart attacks or strokes.
Plaque is the root cause of heart attacks and strokes. There is minimal incentive to test for cholesterol because it has little effect on plaque. A calcium CT, often known as a calcium score, is required. Even if your cholesterol is excellent, you can still have plaque. This problem could result in a heart attack or stroke.
According to Harvard research, half of all heart attacks in the United States occur in people with good or normal cholesterol. So, if your doctor has not ordered a calcium CT, see if you can acquire one on your own or if the doctor will order one for you. I order these on a regular basis for my patients and have discovered major difficulties in folks as young as 30.
Begin your efforts to become healthier this year by ensuring the health and safety of your heart and brain.
