It’s funny looking back at some of the things I have written about cannabis and being in my current position. I remember thinking that maybe someday people will use this for pain.

It’s odd sitting here knowing that that day is today. We were able to get the most widely legal form of cannabis that would work for pain and anxiety out onto the market. Soon people will have options other than opioids and anxiety meds.

I have already tested it on my 70-year-old mother, who broke her sternum in a car accident, for pain. She commented that it helped with the pain, but the best part was it helped her relax. When she was relaxed, she felt like she could breathe easier.

Since then, I have used it for my 10-year-old son. He had surgery to remove six screws and a plate from his arm. All I gave him for pain were the strips. I cut the strip down, did a lower dose, and eliminated his surgical pain without causing any noticeable psychological changes, so I knocked out the pain without getting him high.

The stress release and sense of peace have been the thing that has been coming back over and over, though.

Cannabis can suppress a part of the brain called the Amygdala. The Amygdala is where we keep all the bad emotions, fear, hate, anger, and stress. By suppressing this part of the brain, our emotional attachment to these feelings weakens, allowing a definite sense of peace.

Think of it like putting down the stress you’re carrying. You don’t get anything you just don’t have to deal with the weight anymore. This can also be dosed out so that you are fully functional without a “high,” but you still feel peace. I feel like cannabis was waiting for the sublingual technology to become what it always could be, which is one of the best things we can put in our bodies.

Stay tuned as I am writing a series of articles on the cannabis topics, and how it may impact wellness.
